Now that the refurbishment of the
interior of St Stephen’s is approaching it’s
conclusion, plans to include an
heritage information
centre in what was the Bow Room in the
building are taking shape. As part of this effort, a
research activity
involving volunteers and professional heritage
interpretation specialists is planned to
commence in January.
Volunteers are being sought who are interested in
the history of Exeter and who are willing to
give about six hours study each week for a
three-month research period. Training and support is
to be given as research is undertaken into six
identified themes. These are:
-
St Stephen’s and the Normans;
-
St Stephen’s and the Tudors;
-
St Stephen’s and the Civil War;
-
St Stephen’s and the
Georgians/Victorians;
-
St Stephen’s and the Exeter
Blitz and The Rebuilding of St Stephen’s.
The research will entail
searching the records
held in various locations in Exeter and the
preparing of
information folders for storing in the new
heritage centre. This information is to be
professionally translated into a series of leaflets,
a number of static information panels and an
interactive touch-screen panel for sharing with
visitors to St Stephen’s.
If you live in the Exeter area and
would like to be added
to the list of volunteers, please contact
John Dobson
(email
dobson.john3@sky.com or call 01392 666065 giving
your name and address).
The first meeting of the volunteer
research group will take pace on January 12th;
reminders and other information will be sent out at
the beginning of January.
This is
going to be fun; please join us if you can
commit yourself to this three month research effort. |
