Three Aims of the St Stephen’s Project

The ultimate aim

To support a strong community

The ultimate aim of the St Stephen’s Project is to encourage a strong sense of community and community participation among residents, workers and visitors in Exeter city centre through the shared use of St Stephen’s church

The immediate aim

To create a shared space in St Stephen’s church

The immediate aim of the St Stephen’s Project is to repair, renovate and refurbish St Stephen’s Church to create a modern multi-functional space which enables charitable, community and voluntary organisations to promote their activities and hold social and cultural events of varying kinds whilst retaining its thousand-year role as a consecrated building.

The practical aim

To modernise St Stephen’s church while recognising its historical and social significance in the heart of Exeter

The practical aim of the St Stephen’s Project is, in partnership with others, to modernise the building by improving access, creating exhibition and performance areas and providing an appropriate meeting space while protecting the historical significance of this ancient building.
