The St Stephen's Project

Patrons:  Bishop of Exeter, Lord Mayor of Exeter, MP for Exeter,
Leader of Exeter City Council

Welcome

There has been a church on the site of St Stephen's for over 1,000 years. Situated on the busy Exeter High Street, not only is it a place of worship but an ideal venue to support the work of a large number of local organisations, charities, and voluntary bodies. The church has never been so lively. The ultimate aim of the project is to support a strong sense of community and community participation among residents, workers, and visitors in Exeter City Centre through the shared use of St Stephen's Church.

We want to modernise the interior, improve access, and create a flexible, multi-functional space for future generations to use. First, however, the roof and tower which are in a very poor state must be repaired to enable the rest of the project to proceed as funding becomes available.

The Project Brochure contains full details of the scheme. There is also an exhibition in the church illustrating the background to the project. ...more about the Project

Project Update - November

Contacts with potential grant-giving organisations have now begun, but we will not get into full swing until the brochure is completed in early November, after the official cost estimates have been received. Focus group meetings have gone very well to date and encouraging comments from our Patrons for Phase 2 of the Project have been very helpful.

The ‘Gardeners Questions' evening went very well and £370 was banked for the Project. Don't forget the fund-raising event on 4th November in St Stephen's when the Exeter Singers, will provide an evening of sacred and secular music. Caroline has full details.

Please Help

Make a donation towards the next phase of the work.  The roof and tower are now weather tight, but there is still so much more to do.

Donors that sponsored a slate of the new roof were given an opportunity to leave a message for the future.  ... Read some of their messages
